Colorless or white shiny flakes or white crystalline powder. Slight characteristic odor. Taste bitter. M.p. 280-281 ° (decomposition). Strong acid is unstable, can lead to demethylation. Soluble in water, warm dilute ethanol, alkaline solution and dilute mineral acids. Insoluble in ethanol, practically insoluble in ether.
